This website has a duplicity to it – I both love it and know that it needs work. I created it as my last semester project while at Capilano University’s INTE (Interactive Design) Program. Take my neophyte ‘digi-point-of-view’ at the time, and add in some zest of ‘husband-as-client’ and this was the result. Michael has created thousands of sculptures in his career as a full-time, Fine Artist, so where do you start when conducting a content audit of that volume of work?
The goal was to keep the website simple and easy to use, but the challenge lay in the fact that 3D sculpture has multiple views to it – how do we show users more ‘sides’ of the artwork, and not take them too deep into the website in case they want to keep moving through a section of the portfolio? The result was a vertical film strip within each portfolio category, as well as smaller thumbnails for various views of a single sculpture.
Shout out to CC (you know who you are) who did most of the heavy lifting during the coding and developing of the site.
